NPS CURRENTLY USES THE LOTUS NOTES/DOMINO MESSAGING AND COLLABORATION SYSTEM (LN/DS). IT IS A HOST OF INTEGRATED DIRECTORY AND MESSAGING SERVICES THAT PROVIDE EMAIL, CALENDAR, SCHEDULING, COLLABORATION AND DOCUMENT-BASED DATABASE AND WORKFLOW CAPABILITIES TO SERVICE EMPLOYEES OF ALL LEVELS OUTSIDE AND INSIDE THE CONUS. CURRENTLY, THE LN/DS HAS A VARIETY OF HARDWARE (42 SERVERS AT LAST COUNT) ASSETS THROUGHOUT A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT LOCATIONS, RUNNING DIFFERENT OPERATING SYSTEMS, DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF LOTUS NOTES, AND WITH A VARIETY OF LEVELS OF FAULT TOLERANCE. THE OCIO/NITC IS INVOLVED IN AN ONGOING PROJECT DESIGNED TO ARCHITECT A SYSTEM WITH HIGH LEVELS OF AVAILABILITY AND SCALABILITY.
